Aha Moment
The specific moment during onboarding when a user first experiences the core value of the product and understands why it matters.
The aha moment is the pivot point from new user to engaged user. It is the instant the product clicks — when someone sends their first report and sees the data light up, connects their first account and watches the automation run, or adds their first team member and sees collaboration happen. Identifying your product's aha moment requires qualitative research: talking to retained users about what moment convinced them to stay, and comparing their behaviour to users who churned. Once identified, the aha moment becomes the north star of onboarding design — every step before it exists only to get the user there faster. Removing friction between sign-up and the aha moment is the highest-leverage onboarding improvement available. Some products have multiple aha moments for different segments, each requiring a different onboarding path.
