Growth Metrics
Serviceable Addressable Market (SAM)
The portion of TAM that your product can realistically serve given your current business model, geography, and capabilities.
SAM narrows TAM to the slice of the market that your product could actually capture today — not in theory but in practice. If your software only works for US-based companies with fewer than 500 employees, your SAM is the TAM of that specific segment, not the entire global market. SAM is the honest market size number that should drive your go-to-market strategy, pricing decisions, and growth projections. It acknowledges that even the best product cannot serve every possible customer in a market due to structural constraints. The distance between TAM and SAM also reveals opportunities: expanding internationally, adding enterprise features, or building integrations can all expand SAM toward TAM over time.
